Continuing problems with Speedway Sand & Gravel at Edgewood Av

On July 7, during a brief but intense storm, the Edgwood Av construction site experienced problems:
  • Silt socks failed to make contact with uneven ground before the storm
  • Streets leaving area were dirty before rain began
  • Cloth dam at bottom of Edgewood Av (west side) continued to be ineffective
  • Torrents of muddy water made an end run down Jefferson and Lincoln streets (see below)
Muddy water leaving the site: corner of Lincoln & Jefferson.

We've seen gradually improving methods at this site.  But because of constantly recurring problems, a group of citizens have filed a 60-day notice to sue for numerous violations of erosion control regulations.  Fines are $37,500 per violation per day.

Nevertheless, we were pleased to see a man out in the rain, trying to fix problems with the silt socks.

The bottom line: a muddy plume in Lake Wingra yet again.
